Rainbow's Bridge 100_2028 (Small).jpg (61391 bytes)

It is a very difficult time for anyone when their best friend passes on to the rainbow bridge, this page is dedicated to all those beautiful hounds who wait patiently for you to join them.

We found great comfort in Wendy Tugby's books and if you have lost a much loved pet you should read them

Available from her website www.irishwolfhounds-wales.eu

Just this side of Heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.
When a hound dies that has been especially close to someone here, that dog goes to the Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they run and play together.
There is plenty of food and water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the hounds that are old or ill are restored to health and vigour.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The hounds are happy and content, except for one small thing -
they each miss someone special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
The bright eyes are intent, the eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face,
your hands again caress the beloved head
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your hound,
so long gone from your life,
but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together ....

never again to part.

For Conor:  Gentle Giant

Lynel and Michael Hayes from Lincolnshire, England

If I had known, when I awoke this day, That by its end no more with you I’d play

I’d hold you fast against me oh so tight   The fabled horsemen would know they’d no right

To take you from me                                     If I had known

If I had known that ‘fore this day did end   I’d be without your beauty, dearest friend

Just one more time I’d gaze upon your face    And marvel at your gentleness and grace

Before you left me                         If I had known

If I had known when first I rose this morn     That by day’s end from me you would be torn

I’d take you places you had never been    And show you wonders you had never seen

And share such joys with you              If I had known

If I had known when first this day I met That you’d be gone before the sun had set

I wouldn’t, still, one blessed moment spend Nor second waste as if could never end

My precious time with you                    If I had known

If I had known before this day was done That never more we’d warm beneath the sun

But cold the rays of moonlight round me shone Upon the ground where once you were......now gone

So far away from me       If I had known

I did not know.  How could I......feeble man That written was it in some deity’s plan

The day, the hour, that from me you would go   And leave me weeping in this vale below

Upon your mortal form              I did not know

Nor did I know how sore my heart would break Nor how my soul would willingly forsake

Eternity, to yet have one more day Of happiness and joy and love and play

Together as before             Nor did I know

For now I know that with me as before   You cannot spend a single second more

That on death’s final journey you must go   Without me, lonely, weeping here below

The path you walk alone            For now I know

And this I know that if by mercy’s grace   Once more I came to gaze upon your face

And walk this road beside you as before And have my time to spend with you once more

Not one thing would I change

And this I know

Alf05a (Small).jpg (75239 bytes) For Alfie with much love xxx

He was such a special man; a complete rogue with eyes that would move the food from your plate!!! Adept at opening the bin with his nose, and putting his whole head in to find something tasty that had missed him! He was a Wolfhound of the First Order.
It goes without saying that the hole that appeared in my life today seems incapable of being filled. I loved him like no other! He was my introduction to Irish Wolfhounds, (He was a rescue from Peter Mitchell), and he has had such a profound effect on me that I will never be without again.

Yesterday I ran like the wind
Today I was happy and free
                        But my body was old
                           My eyes grew dim
                       So I said my goodbyes
And went to be with 'Him'

I held on to life for so long
                         They say I was brave
                       But how else would the
                      King of the Wolfhounds behave?

                           Please don't shed a tear
                        And don't even cry because
I am resting here where I lie
But when you come to be with me
                           We'll race like the wind
                        You'll call my name and
                                  hug me and say
I am the King of the Wolfhounds
                                  Forever to be!

Written for another lovely boy who is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
